Current mood: confusedconfused

“From Hell to Heaven,” Paramount’s scaled-down take on “Grand Hotel” (mid-level stars congregate at a resort for a horse race, not top-tier stars at a hotel), is among Carole Lombard’s more obscure offerings. (She’s shown with Sidney Blackmer above.) But this early 1933 title is being featured this weekend by Heritage Auctions, thanks to this poster:

Not the greatest depiction of Lombard in poster art (is she the woman being embraced at the top or the lady just below clutching her fur?), but other than that it’s some stunning artwork. This one-sheet measures 27″ x 41″, and according to Heritage, it’s in fine to very fine condition — adding it’s “an unrestored poster that displays signs of use. May include slight edge and fold wear, pinpoint crossfold separations, creases, small tears, pinholes, and some surface rippling.”

The current bid on the item is $360, not including the buyer’s premium that boosts the cost to $430.20. As of this writing, the next minimum bid is $380/$454.10. There have been five Internet or mail bids made, and proxy bidding concludes at 6 p.m. (Eastern) tomorrow. It’s part of an Internet movie poster auction; learm more about that at http://movieposters.ha.com/c/auction-home.zx?saleNo=161536&ic=breadcrumb-movieposters-121913-interior.
