Current mood: amusedamused

Above are Carole Lombard and Fred MacMurray in a romantic publicity shot for the 1937 comedy “True Confession.” It’s a far cry from this hilarious still promoting the same movie:

But this was nothing new to them, as this funny photo from their first collaboration, 1935’s “Hands Across the Table,” makes clear.

MacMurray said years later that Lombard elicited things he never knew he possessed as an actor, and credited her with making this former orchestra saxophonist feel at ease before the camera.

All three of these vintage pictures are available via eBay.

The romantic “True Confession” pic has five bids as of this writing, topping at $11.50. Bidding on it will end at 10:45 p.m. (Eastern) one week from tonight. Place your bid or learn more by visiting

Its silly counterpart from the same movie only has one bid so far, for the minimum 99 cents; its auction ends a minute after the one above. Additional information can be found at

Finally, the horizontal hilarity from “Hands Across the Table” hails from a different seller. It has a “small piece of coated gone, marks on coated, few pin holes.” The asking price is $24.99 (it’s a sale, not an auction). If interested, check out
