In the (secular) spirit of the season, here’s a rather serene portrait John Engstead took of Carole Lombard, presumably from 1940 — this looks to be the outfit Lombard wore as the waitress Amy in that year’s “They Knew What They Wanted” — which apparently is a celebration of either Easter or spring (here in the Northern Hemisphere, at least).
