No, it’s not like giveaway checkers (although wouldn’t the concept of an auction where you were paid the highest amount to take an item be fun?). It’s an auction held today by Heritage Auctions (I apologize for such short notice), in which five of the six Carole Lombard items available are nitrate negatives.

For me, the prize is above — the rare p1202-1074, from 1935. I love the description:

“With her beautiful heart-shaped face, and classy personality projection, Carole Lombard could even make fashion-suspect hats look desirable and ‘must have’ to women worldwide.”

Other negatives available include p1202-408…

…and p1202-889:

The black sheep (or, since this concerns negatives, would it be white sheep?) in the family is p1202-1630, a print (with snipe) promoting Carole’s upcoming film, “True Confession”:

You don’t have much time to bid on these; the deadline is 11 p.m. (Eastern) tonight. See all six images by visiting http://movieposters.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=54+793+794+791+792+2088+4294948450&chkNotSold=0&Ntk=SI_Titles&Nty=1&Ntt=carole+lombard. As of this writing, bids on the items range from $6 to $110.

In comparison, this delightful negative, p1202-1300, went for $74 at a recent Heritage auction:
