For a Carole Lombard fan, what better way to kick off the new year than to see some rare images? That’s what we’re doing today, first of all with the pic above, yet another original from the famed Lester Glassner collection. To prove it’s an original, here’s what the back looks like:

carole lombard 2360a back

It’s from Movie Life magazine, via Pictorial Feature Service at 11 1/2 East 49th Street in Manhattan. While Movie Life began in the fall of 1937, this picture appears to be from earlier in the ’30s (although we have no date or studio reference to guide us, it looks suspiciously similar to some of those “beach” shots Carole made for “Sinners In The Sun”). Here’s how the seller describes it:

“Sunny studio photo of Carole Lombard in floral summer wear, complete with painted palm tree and sandy beach landscape. As always, Lombard exudes glamour, sophistication, sensuality…and with this one a bright playfulness. Again, we’re not sure that we’ve ever seen her take a bad picture. This photo appears to have been acquired by ‘Movie Life’ magazine from Pictorial Feature Service and was likely published in the periodical. The borders have been cropped and there is other evidence of the editorial process. There is some soiling and general wear.”

It measures 7 1/4″ x 9 3/4″; as is usually the case for Glassner product, you can buy it now (for $99.95) or make an offer. Find out more at

The other goodie is Paramount p1202-871, from 1934:

This is from the same session that produced the similar p1202-870:

P1202-871 is an original double-weight still in excellent condition. It’s being auctioned with a minimum bid of $25 (none have been made as of this writing); bidding continues through 6:47 p.m. (Eastern) Monday. To bid or get additional information, go to

And again, best wishes to you and yours during the new year.
