Two photos associated with films Carole Lombard made with first husband William Powell are on today’s eBay list of Lombard goodies. Above is the first, a vintage still from “My Man Godfrey” that you can purchase for $7.50. If interested, visit

The next was a promotional pic for the first Lombard-Powell collaboration, “Man Of The World,” though you won’t see William in the picture. Here’s one of the weirder photos Carole ever agreed to, which thankfully has a snipe on the back:

Lombard with the mask of tragedy…okay, so this was made in 1931, before she was expressly associated with comedy, but there is something unintentionally absurd about this entire concept. One wonders if 1931 Paramount would have thrust something like this in the face of Marlene Dietrich or Claudette Colbert; something tells me the answer would be no.

Here’s a closeup of Lombard’s pose. “Isn’t this just the funniest photo ever?” Carole Sampeck of The Lombard Archive wrote me, and it certainly is amusing…

If you’re a connoisseur of the absurd, you can buy this picture for $49. Go to×10-Movie-Still-Photo-14-/230747705485?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D2715943162185487609%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D221139355296%26.
